Parent & Caregiver June Fireside Chat

The Family Leadership Team held its June Parent-Caregiver Fireside Chat, featuring co-host Jaquita Clark from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). This engaging session was dedicated to sharing essential resources tailored for Kansas families and children aged 5-8.
During the session, participants discussed a wide array of topics including after school care; curriculum topics such as emotion regulation, stress management, friendship building skills, reading, and self-esteem; youth and developmental health; mental health; physical wellness; and identified a need for enhanced awareness of services and resources statewide. The conversation
highlighted the dynamic nature of support networks available to families across the state from local Family Resource Centers, Kansas-focused websites, and public libraries to various clubs including Boys and Girls Clubs, Scouts, and religious groups.
All parents and caregivers in Kansas help support thriving families! If you were unable to attend and have a valuable resource for children ages 5 to 8 to share, please email Rachel Gardner at rachelgardner@ku.edu or Cora Ungerer at cora.ungerer@ks.gov.
The visual notes drawn by Sara O’Keeffe, summarize resources for Kansas families with children this age as well as those offered by community partners including local resource centers, community events, public libraries, out-of-school time care, and churches. A family’s village and support network, such as caregivers, are vital for families to thrive.
This event is led by the Family Leadership Team, in alignment with the All In For Kansas Kids Strategic Plan, with support from the University of Kansas Center for Public Partnerships and Research (KU-CPPR) and Help Me Grow Kansas (HMG KS). If you are interested in learning more and/or being a part of the Family Leadership Team, please contact Cora Ungerer at cora.ungerer@ks.gov
